Congrats to Carla

Congrats and kudos to Carla Rolfe, who managed to do something no one has done in quite awhile--come up with an original nickname using my last name: Mr. Gummness.

(I'm not counting Matty Gummpo, although come to think of it, the nickname thing is just more evidence of this observation. Sorry, Carla--maybe it's not something to be proud of after all!)

Matt, with a name like yours, I could come up with a new nick every day of the week! (I can only say that because of what my first married name was, and the nine hundred and forty seven trillion variations people came up with, out of that name).

Now the important questions is:

Where's my prize? Surely there must be prizes!?
;o)

SDG... me

I liked Matty Gumpo, but it took me some time to get it. Do you really have leatherstockings?

Hmm. Maybe I don't get it. I thought it was because we ate Chinese when I went to see him.

What are you talking about?

The hero of J. Fennimore Cooper's The Leatherstocking Tales (which included Last of the Mohicans)was Nathaniel (aka Leatherstocking, aka La Longue Carabine, aka Hawkeye, aka Pathfinder, aka Deerslayer, aka Natty Bumpo. He was the ultimate tough guy frontiersman, who would always seek justice and defend the weak, no matter what the cost. So he was complimenting you I think.

This is telling! Frank Turk's allusions are so obscure that not even his sidekicks know what he's talking about. What hope do the rest of us have to figure out what on earth he's ranting about???

You may be right, but I won't blame my lack of conversance with the classics on Frank.

Ha. The only one of Cooper's books I've read is Last of the Mohicans, and that was only after I saw the movie. And besides, you know who Kafka is.
